The lecture emphasizes informal theories as a starting point for formalization and illustrates this with informal theories and their formal counterparts. However, it leaves the process of formalization largely implicit. What strategies or methodological steps could researchers use to move from informal theories to formal ones?
Van Rooij and Baggio 2020 claimed that all theories in psychology (and I proposed in neuroscience as well) are descriptions of capacities. How does the definition of the capacity determine the form of the theory used to describe it (hint: think Marr’s levels of analyses)?
